On January 31, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and Special Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Tasnim Aslam held consultations in Moscow on regional and bilateral issues.

The officials had an extensive exchange of opinions on the situation in Afghanistan and discussed the state and prospects for the development of multifaceted Russian-Pakistani relations, placing an emphasis on trade and economic cooperation as well as on countering new threats and challenges.

Russia supports Islamabad's intention to combat terrorism and extremism in a proactive manner and in this context will render practical assistance to Pakistan's effort to build up its counterterrorism potential.
