The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodor Meleșcanu, welcomed today, January 10th, 2017, the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Romania, Cord Meier-Klodt, for the presentation of the copies of the letters of credence.

On this occasion, the two officials exchanged views regarding the stage and the prospects of the relations between Romania and Germany, underlining the common interest to enhance and further develop the political dialogue and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The two officials also evoked the symbolism of the year 2017, that marks 25 years since the Treaty of Friendly Cooperation and Partnership in Europe between Romania and Germany was signed, an emblematic document of the strategic relation between Bucharest and Berlin.

The discussions also addressed the main challenges that the European Union faces at the moment, as well as the prospects to consolidate the European project. Furthermore, the importance of a thorough Romanian-German cooperation at European level was also highlighted.

The Romanian official congratulated the new head of the diplomatic mission of the the Federal Republic of Germany to Bucharest and wished him success in fulfilling his mandate, assuring him of the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for carrying out his activity in Romania.
