Jakarta, 16/01/2017 MoF - President Joko Widodo welcomed Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Bogor Palace on Sunday (01/15). From the bilateral meeting, Indonesia and Japan agreed to cooperate in various sectors. 'In this meeting, Prime Minister Abe and I agreed to continue enhancing cooperation in politics, economics, maritime, and socio-cultural sectors. The cooperation should provide a mutual benefit,' said the President, as quoted from the Cabinet Secretariat site on Monday (01/16).

Next year, Indonesia and Japan will celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations, with a commemoration in term of modern technology. `One of the expectations is to increase the cooperation between Japan and Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) nations, as Indonesia is the current chairman.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe considered the cooperation with Indonesia in maritime sector, is an important priority. 'Japan will encourage the cooperation in maritime security and the development of remote islands in Indonesia through the Indonesia-Japan Maritime Forum that has been founded last December,' said the Prime Minister.

From the data presented by President, Japan investment to Indonesia has been rising significantly, amid the global economic slowdown. 'Amid the slowdown in global economy, we have recorded that Japan investment in Indonesia is raising significantly. From January to September 2016, Japan investment has reached USD4,498 billion and this number has increased double than 2015,' he added. (as/rsa)
