Notice of Major Renovation of the Hydroelectric Power Plant in Joetsu-shi, Niigata

Itochu Enex Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Kenji Okada, Representative Director; hereinafter "Itochu Enex") hereby announces that it has decided to renovate the hydroelectric power plant in Joetsu-shi, Niigata.

This project is intended to renovate the hydroelectric power plant located on the premises of Joetsu Energy Service Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Joetsu-shi, Niigata; Kazuo Kojima, President; hereinafter "JES"), owned by Enex Electric Power Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Makoto Shimizu, President; hereinafter "Enex Electric Power"), which is a solely owned subsidiary of Enex and plays a central role in its power business, and also to apply the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy.

With this project, Itochu Enex will make efforts to boost its output by renovating the aging facilities, such as the hydroelectric power plant that was constructed 88 years ago, and to strengthen its balanced power source portfolio, including renewable energy-one of its strengths. We aim to complete the renovation in December 2020.

As a new power producer & supplier with seamless functions of power generation, supply and demand, and sales, Enex Group aims to become a PPPS (Prime* PPS) that is useful for people and society, and a regional ESP* that supports the security, safety, and convenience of people and the community. We intend to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions, which are considered to be a cause of global warming, through the expansion of power plants using renewable energy.

  • Prime: (adj.) first, chief, principal, supreme, preeminent; (noun) prime number

  • ESP: Energy Service Provider, Integrated Energy Service
