GLOBAL NEWS:

Earnings season. In the United States, Walt Disney, Fidelity, Becton Dickinson, Duke Energy, Zoetis, Allergan and Regeneron are among companies reporting earnings today. In Europe, Deutsche Post, Beiersdorf, Rolls-Royce, Intercontinental Hotels and Meggitt.

The right timing. Jeff Bezos finally sold $2.8 billion in Amazon.com shares between the end of July and last Friday. The group did not wish to comment. The manager had put in place a multi-year disposal plan, in particular to finance his space project, which is very resource-intensive. A rather opportune timing in view of the last stock market sessions, which saw the stock drop by nearly 8% in 5 days.

UMG in China? Vivendi has begun negotiations with Tencent to sell 10% of its musical subsidiary UMG to the Chinese group. Both groups are also evaluating other collaborations in parallel.

Marriage of reason. New Media acquires Gannett, the publisher of USA Today, for $1.4 billion. The new group will bring together 263 daily media in 47 states of the United States, plus USA Today, Gannett's flagship. The objective is to create a large reinforced media group to adapt to the digitization of the sector.

Texas whiskey in the pastis. Pernod Ricard acquired Firestone & Roberstson, owner of Texas whiskeys and TX super-premium bourbons. The amount of the transaction, which includes a state-of-the-art distillery, has not been disclosed. The group confirms its ambitions in high-end niche markets.
