Energy UK : comments on Government response to coal closure consultation

Following the Government's response today to their consulation on coal closure, Energy UK has issued the below statement.

Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK, said:

'The energy industry has made huge progress in decarbonising our economy and 2017 was the greenest year yet with low carbon generation reaching record levels in the UK.
'The Government's announcement confirms that the future lies with a cleaner generation mix and we support the Clean Growth Strategy and the ambition to go further and faster in the transition to a world-leading clean, green economy.
'To ensure a smooth transition while maintaining security of supply, it will be important for the Government and industry to work in partnership to further support the development of renewables and other low carbon energy sources as part of a balanced energy mix.'
