WIESBADEN- The consumer price index for Germany is expected to have risen by an average of 1.5% in 2013 compared with 2012. Based on the results available so far, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the consumer price index is expected to have increased by 1.4% in December 2013 on December 2012. Compared with November 2013, consumer prices rose by 0.4%.
In a year-on-year comparison, the 3.8% increase in food prices expected for December 2013 is still higher than average. Compared with December 2012, the prices for energy products are expected to be slightly up (+1.1%) for the first time again.

The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to have increased by 1.6% in 2013 compared with 2012. For December 2013, a year-on-year increase in the harmonised consumer price index of 1.2% is expected, while the rise on November is 0.5%.
The final results for December 2013 and the annual average of 2013 will be released on 16 January 2014.
