(Miami, FL January 27, 2017) -On Monday, January 30, 2017, Miami City Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon and the Southeast Overtown Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ('CRA') Board of Commissioners will vote on a resolution, directing the Executive Director to award a $750,000 grant to the City of Miami Police Department. This resolution intends to increase police visibility and assist officers in alleviating the criminal element in the Overtown community.
Commissioner Keon Hardemon, chairman of the agency stated that 'Overtown residents deserve a better quality of life and should not have to suffer from social ills presented by outsiders. The residents need the cooperation of our police in guaranteeing their neighborhood is safe and drug free.'
The meeting will be held on NW 1 Court between NW 13 and 14 street, an area that has been ground zero for the opioid overdosing epidemic in Miami-Dade County. A presentation will be made by the City of Miami Police addressing how the dollars be utilized to best serve the Overtown community.
