First Citizens Partners with Safe Kids Pennsylvania to Raise Funds for Car Seats

MANSFIELD, PA (January 2018) First Citizens Community Bank is proud to announce their partnership with Safe Kids Pennsylvania, an organization designed to promote the prevention of childhood injuries in Pennsylvania through education, collaboration, and advocacy. Through a recent fundraising event, First Citizens raised $1,028.55 for the Safe Kids Tioga Partner workgroup, enough for the group to purchase up to 25 convertible car seats for families who would otherwise struggle to afford one. On average, a convertible car seat, which can be converted appropriately as children age, costs about $250. Safe Kids Tioga can purchase them at a discount, allowing the donated funds to reach more families.

"On behalf of the Tioga County Partnership for Community Health, I'd like to thank Heather Sargent, Emily Cornell, and the team at First Citizens Community Bank for their efforts to raise money for this worthy cause," commented McKenna Light, Program Coordinator. "Collaborative efforts like this one make Tioga County a healthier place to live, work, and play."

The Safe Kids Tioga Partnership hosts car seat safety check stations with the help of local partners. Certified Car Seat Technicians are on hand to ensure seats are properly installed and fitted to each child. Parents are educated during an installation demonstration and given the opportunity to practice under the direction of the technician. For convenience, clients can also make requests for appointments.

A new Pennsylvania law requires children younger than age two to be secured in a car seat facing the rear of the vehicle until the child outgrows the maximum weight and height limits designated by the car seat manufacturer. Rear-facing car seats distribute the impact of a crash more equally, which better protects kids.

"Unfortunately, with changing laws and the growing cost of car seats, many of our neighbors are unable to provide the best protection for their children while riding in the car," commented Emily Cornell, Finance Accountant, First Citizens. Heather Sargent, First Citizens Public Relations and Communications Coordinator added, "Once we saw an opportunity to raise funds for our local kids, the rest was easy. Safe Kids and their mission are something we are proud to support."

First Citizens Community Bank is headquartered in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. They currently operate 28 offices throughout Tioga, Bradford, Potter, Clinton, Union, Centre, Lebanon, Lancaster, Schuylkill and Berks counties in Pennsylvania and Allegany County New York.
