STRONG GROWTH

FOR ARTCURIAL IN 2016

"Once again, Artcurial is behind the highest bid in France in 2016 with the most expensive collector car ever sold at auction for 32,1 M€ including premium last February at Rétromobile.

This year was marked by the sales of private collections organised by our various specialist departments. These exceptional events represent 40% of the sale volume and reflect our close ties with collectors.

All our specialties progress with significant growth noted for Old Master and 19th century art, Design and Jewellery.

"For the first time in its history, Artcurial goes over the 200M€ sales mark, up 10% compared to 2015.

With a total sale of 210,1 M€ / 222,7 M$ in 2016 (up + 10% on 2015), Artcurial confirms its force and strategy: to offer collectors around the world an array of specialist subjects (works of art, collectibles) in a wide range of prices. This strategy enabled Artcurial to attract 44% new clients this year and sell 74% of the lots offered at auction.

This double digit growth is possible thanks to the successful results of all of the specialist departments which have all progressed compared to 2015 : + 22 % for the luxury and art de vivre universe, + 16 % for the 20th century department directed by Fabien Naudan, Artcurial vice-President, + 15 % for collector cars and + 2 % for Fine Arts.

For the second year running, Artcurial is behind the highest bid in France with the sale of the most expensive collector car

Today, Artcurial boasts 75% foreign clients represented by 97 nationalities, for lots sold for over 50 000€. The average

The Artcurial Culture Agency was created last year under the direction of Francis Briest and continues its development. In January, the Artcurial Culture Agency will produce a Picasso museum exhibition at the Espace Musées located within the CDG airport in Paris. It has just finished the scientific project for the exhibition dedicated to the Orient Express and will announce the destinations of this travelling exhibition early 2017.

HIGHLIGHTS

FROM 2016

Private Collection sales: Artcurial's savoir-faire

Symbolising true savoir-faire in the development and sale of private collections, Artcurial confirms its place as the auction house excelling in this speciality, attracting international buyers.

For example, during the 2nd semester, Artcurial presented the collection of an American, passionate about French design (Collecting on the wild side). This enthusiastic collector chose to sell his collection in France and bidders showed strong interest from all four corners of the globe.

Throughout the year, private collection auctions were organised across various departments including Modern and Contemporary art, Collector Cars, Photography, Books, Pre Columbian Art, Design, Comic strips, Jewellery, Collector watches...

Artcurial excels in this field thanks to its expert promotion and marketing tools including quality catalogues, international curated exhibitions and dedicated sales, surrounding the auctions.

Sometimes, private collections enable the auction house to underline its commitments to a certain field. This is the case for the Michel Fedoroff Collection auction whose record results highlighted the work of 7 artists nominated for the Prix Marcel Duchamp to the international art scene.

to race pilot Jean Ragnotti.

22nd February 2017

From Alphonse to Hélène Kann, The passion of an artistic legacy

Artcurial will sell a collection of works of art coming from the Alphonse Kann collection and his niece Hélène. The auction will include: Oriental Art, Asian Art, Tribal Art, ancient objects, Old Master and miniatures paintings, modern art (from Masson, Braque, Laurencin..) and contemporary art (Artschwager, Debré, Erro, Matta…). Inspired by her uncle, Hélène Kann also collected works by contemporary artists until the 1990s.

22nd et 23rd March 2017

Gaston Delestre Collection Georges Dormeuil Collection

On March 22nd, Artcurial's Old Masters and 19th century department will offer the Gaston Delestre (1913-1969) collection, presenting two centuries of a family passion. The first chapter of the collection is dedicated to works by Baron Gros. After the Louvre, the Delestre collection represents the largest collection of drawings by Baron Gros. The second chapter of the collection reflects the varied tastes the family had for drawings from the 17th century Northern School, for French 18th century drawings, for Delacroix and Géricault.

The following day, Artcurial will present works from the collection once belonging to Georges Dormeuil including the work, Homme au bonnet de profil en buste by Jean-Antoine Watteau, which is a remarkable black crayon piece with a sanguine highlighted touch. The auction will also include works from the Baron Gérard succession, the first painter

of King Charles X and also drawings by Géricault, Boucher, Tiepolo and Girodet.

A selection of these works will be on display in New York during Master drawings from 23th to 25th January 2017.
