To address the increased demand for innovative, eye-catching beverage can packaging, the Ardagh Valparaiso, Ind., beverage can end and tab plant will be increasing production.

The investment enables the Valparaiso facility, in conjunction with Ardagh's seven beverage can manufacturing plants in North America, to further serve its leading beverage can customers with attractive and highly-differentiated packaging.

The plant, built in 1987 and utilising more than 135,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space, produces the end or 'top' of the can as well as the tab, which consumers pull to open the can. Increasingly, leading beverage companies are choosing to utilise colourful graphics for ends and tabs, complimenting the full surface space of the can body used to showcase their brand.

The plant, which is ISO-9001:2015 certified, a third-party designation bestowed upon high quality and environmentally-focused manufacturing organisations, will be increasing production by approximately 10 percent. The new production will be available in the third quarter of 2019, with all customer needs being met now and, with this investment, for the near future.

Claude Marbach, CEO, Ardagh Metal - North America, says the investment in the plant's people and capabilities is testament to the focus on quality and customer satisfaction by the Ardagh Valparaiso team. 'We're very proud to increase Valparaiso's production capabilities, further positioning the plant as a world-class source of innovative, eye-catching tabs and ends,' he says. 'We are providing leading beverage organisations the best in brand-building packaging, enabling differentiation on retail shelves with the inherent environmental benefits of aluminum cans.'

Indeed, beverage cans are a strong sustainability choice. Beverage cans support brand environmental objectives with a recycle rate and recycled content percentage higher than any other beverage package. And beverage cans are filled, shipped and displayed at retail more efficiently as there is no wasted space due to the package's stacking capabilities.
