Waterfield became the largest privately held residential mortgage banking company in the United States and its banking subsidiary, Union Federal Bank, was the largest privately held financial institution in Indiana.
Mr. Sherman and his investor group sold Waterfield in 2006 realizing a compound 19% annual return.
He also served on the board at White River Capital, Inc. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University.
