Mr. Berents has a BS in mineral economics from Penn State and an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia.
After Mr. Berents served in the Navy from 1962 to 1964 as a gunnery officer in the Pacific Amphibious Attack Force, he began his career in New York as a security analyst at Morgan Guaranty.
He moved to Boston in 1971 and worked for Massachusetts Financial Services as an analyst and emerging growth fund manager.
From 1981 to 2001, Mr. Berents was president of his own firm, providing investment counsel to individuals, families, private corporations, foundations and endowments.
In 2001, Berents & Hess joined North American Management, where Mr. Berents is Chief Investment Officer, chairing the Investment Committee and overseeing the firm's investment strategy.

Mr. Berents is a director of the Boston Securities Analysts Society and former Chairman of its Program Committee.
He is also active in the Investment Counsel Association of America, where he has served on committees on Standards of Practice, Business Management, and Technology Assessment.
Mr. Berents serves on Penn State's Grand Destiny Campaign Executive Committee, directing the largest fundraising effort in the university's history.
In Boston, Mr. Berents a trustee of the Boston Chamber Music Society, and he served on the Membership Committee of the Trinity Church of Boston.
