O'Neill was an outspoken liberal Democrat and influential member of the House of Representatives, serving for 34 years and representing two congressional districts in Massachusetts. He served as Speaker of the House from 1977 until his retirement in 1987, making him the only Speaker to serve for five complete consecutive Congresses, and the second longest-serving Speaker in U.S. history after Sam Rayburn.

Early life and education
O'Neill was the third of three children born to Thomas Phillip O'Neill, Sr., and Rose Ann (née Tolan) O'Neill in the Irish middle-class area of North Cambridge, Massachusetts, known at the time as "Old Dublin." His mother died when he was nine months old, and he was raised largely by a French-Canadian housekeeper until his father remarried when he was eight. O'Neill Sr. started out as a bricklayer, but later won a seat on the Cambridge City Council and was appointed Superintendent of Sewers. During his childhood, O'Neill received the nickname "Tip" after the baseball player James "Tip" O'Neill. He was educated in Roman Catholic schools, graduating in 1931 from the now defunct St. John High School in Cambridge, where he was captain of the basketball team; he was a lifelong parishioner at the school's affiliated parish church St. John the Evangelist Church. From there he went to Boston College, from which he graduated in 1936. He lived on Orchard Street in Cambridge.

Entry into politics
O'Neill first became active in politics at 15, campaigning for Al Smith in his 1928 presidential campaign. Four years later, he helped campaign for Franklin D. Roosevelt. As a senior at Boston College, O'Neill ran for a seat on the Cambridge City Council, but lost; his first race and only electoral defeat. The campaign taught him the lesson that became his best-known quote: "All politics is local".

Early life and education
He was born in Santa Monica, California and spent much of his early life in Europe and Asia. He graduated from Princeton University in 1969 and rose to the rank of lieutenant in the Marine Corps between 1969 and 1971. He received an MBA in 1974 from the University of Virginia.

Career
In 1974 he joined Continental Illinois and moved to First Interstate Capital Markets in 1984 returning to Continental in 1989 to manage its mergers and acquisitions advisory business. In 1992 he became CFO of Continental. After Continental was acquired by BankAmerica he was head of its global equity investments division in 1994 and 1995. From 1995 to 1999 he was BankAmerica's CFO.

In 1999 he became chief executive of Barclays Bank but resigned after two months because he had developed an arrhythmic heartbeat. Michael Corbat, previously Citigroup's CEO of Europe, Middle East, and Africa, was named as his replacement. His resignation followed multiple payouts to investors during ongoing fraud allegations.

Henry Antony Cardew Worrall Thompson (born 1 May 1951) is an English restaurateur and celebrity chef, television presenter and radio broadcaster.

Early life
Worrall Thompson was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. His parents were actor Michael Ingham and actress Joanna Duncan, who separated when he was three. He was educated at the King's School, Canterbury, where he sustained facial injuries while playing rugby. He had to wait until he was twenty-one before he could have plastic surgery to correct the disfigurement.

Early career
After he left school he studied hotel management at Westminster Kingsway College. Taking his first catering job in Essex, it is rumoured that his grandmother refused to write to him because she couldn't bring herself to write Essex on the envelope. In 1978, he moved to London and became sous-chef at Brinkley's Restaurant in the Fulham Road, becoming head chef one year later. The following year he took a sabbatical in France, eating and working his way around the local cuisine. After this he returned to Britain and started producing pans with his business partner Hassan.

Prior to opening his first restaurant, Worrall Thompson was Executive Chef at 190 Queens Gate in South Kensington, London. Worrall Thompson opened his first restaurant &ndash; M&eacute;nage &agrave; Trois &ndash; in Knightsbridge in 1981, notable for only serving starters and puddings.
