Ban on exports of organic nonbasmati rice goes
Going against grain, Telangana farmers sow cotton in rabi season
WORD OF CAUTION. Scientists against largescale farming as bollworm may get free ride
SWEET PROSPECTS
The government on Tuesday lifted the ban on exports of organic nonbasmati rice, including broken rice, a move which would help in promoting the outbound shipments of the commodity. "India exports about 10,00015000 tonnes of organic rice (basmatic and non basmati) annually," All India Rice Exporters Association past president Vijay Setia said. PTI

The kharif rice crop might be lower than the Ministry of Agri culture's first advance estim ates. According to the estimate, rice production is pegged at

Thisyear, kharifpaddycultiv ation was affected by deficient rains in eastern Uttar Pradesh,

Sugar mills get nod for exchange of 4.5 lt of export quota

In the last couple of weeks, natural gas prices rallied sharply. Consequently, the futures contract of this en ergy commodity on the Multi Commodity Ex change (MCX) rallied after taking support at ₹500.
Notably, the December series marked a high of ₹667 last week before fall ing to the current level of ₹592.

Scientists at Icrisat, in associ ation with the Asian Devel opment Bank (ADB), have developed highresolution spatial maps that enable cro pland mapping for insurance claims and governments.
The spatial maps cover the whole of South Asia, which is home to 1.9 billion people and 230 million hectares of net cropped area.
The maps offer a resolu tion of 30 m, which is handy to get the finer details of crop land for food and water se curity assessments. Cur rently, these factors are eval
uatedusing coarseresolution data that ranges from 250 m to 1,000 m.
Spatial maps provide an accurate assessment of the effects of such natural dis asters, reducing time and ef fort for crop planners, policy makers and insurance companies.
"Spatial mapping is a quick and efficient tool for guiding agriculture policy makers to minimise climate risks," said Arvind Kumar, Deputy Dir ectorGeneral, Research, at the International Crops Re search Institute for Semi Arid Tropics (Icrisat).
REGEN FARMING
"Insurance companies and government agencies require highquality satellite imagery to monitor and map floods, droughts and other climatic conditions to make the claims process more accur ate and efficient," he said.
ML Jat, Research Program

Director (Resilient Farm and Food Systems) at Icrisat, said spatial maps could act as a tool to promote regenerative agriculture, which fosters ecological friendly farming.
"Crop type mapping can also guide where and in what systems regenerative agri culture can be deployed," he said.
"The data would help gen erate development models for accurate monitoring and decisionmaking for the en tire region," said Murali Krishna Gumma, Principal Scientist and Cluster Leader (Geospatial Sciences and Big Data), Icrisat.

The Centre has approved the ex changeof2.14lakhtonnes(lt)of sugar export afresh between millsandhasadjustedthemwith the domestic quota, taking the total quantity to over 4.5 lt, so far.
The Food Ministry allowed the exchange of quota on November 28 for the 2.14 lt as sought by 17 sugar mills, though these mills were together allot ted over 2.88 lt. While some mills-mostlywithpermitsless than 5,000 tonnes - have been selling the entire export quota at one go, those with higher alloca tion have been exchanging in tranches, officialsourcessaid.
The Food Ministry earlier ap proved the exchange of 2.38 lt of quota. Many mills in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have entered into contracts with units in Maha rashtra, which enjoy an advant age due to their proximity to ports on the West Coast, offi cialssaid.
Thus, the contract could not complete a weekly close above ₹600, which is a strong resistance.
We expect natural gas fu tures to decline from the current level where it could touch ₹500, a support. Sub sequent support is at ₹475. On the other hand, if the
Isolated heavy rain lashes Kerala, TN in runup to next lowpressure area
contract recovers and gives
- daily close above ₹630, the trend might turn in bulls' favour. Above ₹630, it could retest the prior high at ₹667.
TRADE STRATEGY
Considering the above factors, traders can risk go ing short on the MCXNat ural gas futures (December contract). That is, short the contract at the current level of ₹592 and add more shorts when price rallies to ₹615. Place initial stoploss at ₹642.
When the contract falls below ₹550, revise the stop loss down to ₹585. Liquid ate all the shorts at ₹500 be cause there could be a bounce off this support.

A cyclonic circulation lying over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal andan incoming easterly wave will combine to trigger isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall over gateway Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep during the next 45 days spilling over into the first few days of December.
This will be a prelude to what global models see an expansive phase of rainfall signalling the end of the ongoing lull phase in the NorthEast monsoon as an other cyclonic circulation emerges over the SouthEast Bay of Bengal around December 4 and goes on to acquire

The lull had set in after a well | and chose to dump most of the |
rainfall over the seas even as cool air from NorthWest India flew into the vacuum over land.
This had caused evening and night temperatures to dip to levels not seen in the recent past. The trend was reversed after the laggard weather sys tem managed to cross the coast, bring warm and moist air to raise night temperatures to their normal, and drop rain mostly along the coast while the interior managed to make some spillover gains.
RAIN OUTLOOK
An extended threeday outlook from the IMD said the fresh cyc lonic circulation emerging over the South Andaman Sea around December 4 will bring rainfall over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the South.

Mormugao municipal body clears
encroachments at Vasco vegetable market
Congress submits memo to SP Traffic

PANJIM: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) along with the Vasco Police on Tuesday conducted an anti-encroachment drive at the Vasco vegetable market and confiscated fruits and vegetables.
Despite repeated warnings by the municipality, the vendors turned a deaf ear and were adamant, thus the drive against the encroachers was launched.
The drive continued for almost two hours and the municipal workers loaded confiscated goods in vehi- cles. These goods will not be returned to the vendors but offered to old-age homes and orphanages, informed MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues.
"The municipality had warned these vendors several times in the past and had also issued notices to them giving ultimatum of seven days to remove their encroachments.

PANJIM: A delegation of North Goa District Congress Committee on Tuesday urged the Traffic Police to take strict measures to ease movement of vehicles by reducing illegal use of no parking spaces and to come down heavily on unlicenced private vehicles used as taxis as well those found teaching driving to spouses and relatives by using rent-a-cab or rent-a- bike on public roads.
In a memorandum submitted to SP (Traffic) Bossuet Silva, the delegation said that the people of Goa have to bear the brunt of increasing instances of traffic snarls faced in various parts of the State. The recent traffic block at the Cortalim side across the Zuari River, which held motorists for hours is a pointer to what could become even worse in the days to come.
Beginning with Panjim, the delegation pointed out that
the government authorities were dumping projects after projects causing traffic chaos every day. The perennial trouble spots along the D B Road where the Captain of Ports has granted permission for use of ferry ramps and jetties for use by off-shore casino operators are causing avoidable snarls every day and night too.
The traffic cell must take a call about strict enforcement of no parking along D B Road and increase the fines imposed on errant drivers who tend to break the rule of no parking with impunity. The reckless digging of roads carried out by various authorities has added to the problem, they said.
The delegation also requested the traffic police to review NOCs if any, granted to newproposalsfornewprojects suchasdevelopmentofformer 'quarterdeck' land opposite HotelMandovi, proposedropeway at Campal as well as tendency to build jetties.
