Workday co-founder Aneel Bhusri is stepping back from his role as co-chief executive, handing the reins fully over to Carl Eschenbach.

The cloud-software company said Wednesday that Eschenbach will formally take over as chief executive on Feb. 1. He has served as co-CEO alongside Bhusri since December 2022.

"Workday has never been in a stronger position, thanks in large part to the impact Carl has made in his first year," Bhusri said in a statement.

Bhusri will remain executive chair of Workday's board and serve as a strategic adviser to Eschenbach and the rest of the executive team, with a particular focus on innovation and the trajectory of Workday's applications and technology platform, the company said.
