Catching Up On {code}

As we begin the new year, we look back and commemorate the events and experiences that shaped 2021.

With almost 25,000 people registered on VMware {code}, we've witnessed the incredible growth and influence of our {code} community. Because of you, the #vCommunity, #codecoaches, and #vExperts,

VMware {code} not only had the privilege of connecting with incredible people around the world, but also had the opportunity to celebrate the triumphs of this year.

From online Power Sessions, the Code Coaches program, to the annual VMware #CodeConnect conference and Hackathon, we are beyond thankful for all the experiences that fostered a sense of community amidst the uncertainty and challenges of 2021.

1. Online Power Sessions

With Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) providing both technical and hands-on insight, monthly Power Sessions were held on a variety of topics ranging from Tanzu, Spring Cloud Gateway, NSX-T, Terraform, Kubernetes, and more! By the end of the year, a total of 9 Power Sessions were hosted LIVE, amassing over 3,000+ views! All sessions can be watched on-demand through our YouTube channel here.

2. Code Coaches

Thanks to our 2020 code coaches ' time and nominations, VMware {code} added 6 more brilliant individuals to the code coaches program! Over the past 2 years, our code coaches have played an integral role in facilitating community growth and learning. From writing blogs and hosting Power Sessions, to providing community support through our Slack channel, these Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) engage and aid the

3. #CodeConnect at VMworld

What originally began as a shift to the online world, #CodeConnect has grown to become an integral component of the VMworld 2021 experience. With roughly 3,000+ people tuning in from all around the world, we were amazed by the presence and desire to learn, code, and connect within the community.

Established with the purpose of providing resources to all those looking to learn more about code, VMware {code} ran two tracks, Kubernetes and IT Automation, with the intention of providing relevant topics and technical information to coders of varying levels and disciplines.

Through the annual VMware {code} Hackathon, participants got to put their coding skills to the test as they prepared and presented their 2021 Hackathon projects. This year's Hackathon had an open theme to encourage participants to showcase their passion projects. All teams showed phenomenal ideation, teamwork, and of course, code! Ultimately, the Tanzuformers took the win through their development of Terraform modules and providers for VMware Tanzu. Connect.

Hosting 35+ phenomenal speakers from 12 different countries, #CodeConnect hosted back-to-back live sessions as a means to facilitate connections, conversations, and questions between professionals, peers, and attendees. In addition to the live event, both conference and speaker information were hosted on GitHub, an open-source platform, to encourage speakers to share their code, presentations, and session information with attendees.
