USMD Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: USMD), a physician-led integrated healthcare system, announced today USMD Hospital at Fort Worth earned a five-star Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rating. USMD Hospital at Fort Worth is one of just 13 hospitals in North Texas and 251 hospitals, or seven percent, in the nation to receive a five-star rating, which is the highest score possible. USMD’s other hospital, USMD Hospital at Arlington, earned a four-star rating, an honor held by just 1,205 hospitals nationally.

The new CMS ratings are part of a broader initiative by the federal agency to use a five-star rating system across all of its Web pages, which are intended to help consumers compare the quality of healthcare organizations and providers. The star ratings enable consumers to quickly and easily evaluate hospitals and providers using a five-star scale, with five stars indicating the highest quality care.

The hospital ratings include an average of hospitals' performance on the 11 publicly reported measures from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. The HCAHPS survey asks patients about factors, such as the responsiveness of staff to their needs, quality of care transitions, how well medication information is communicated, cleanliness and quietness of the facility, and whether or not the patient would recommend it to others. The surveys are provided to a random sampling of patients within two days of their discharge.

“We know from our exceptional Press Ganey scores that patients enjoy their experiences at USMD Hospital at Fort Worth and USMD Hospital at Arlington,” said John House, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of USMD Holdings. “Earning a five-star and four-star rating from CMS further validates how patients feel about the care they receive when they visit a USMD hospital. It is a huge honor to be recognized and I want to commend all of the staff working at the hospitals for always providing our patients with top-quality and compassionate care.”

“We are exceptionally pleased with the five-star rating earned by USMD Hospital at Fort Worth and the four-star rating of USMD Hospital at Arlington,” said Karen Fiducia, president, USMD Hospital Management Services. “This is a significant accomplishment and a result of the hard work and tremendous dedication of our hospital staff. Thank you to everyone working at both USMD hospitals for continually putting our patients at the forefront of your minds.”
