United States Steel Corp. has informed employees it will idle two coke making units and a tin mill in Illinois. The company provided notice Jan.

19 to union officials at its Granite City Works that it plans to permanently close the two coke-making units on or after March 22, according to U.S. Steel spokeswoman Courtney Boone. About 176 employees will be impacted. The company is planning a temporary idle of its East Chicago Tin mill, which is part of its Gary Works in Gary.
