PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Umpqua Holdings Corp. (UMPQ) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $150.7 million.

The Portland, Oregon-based bank said it had earnings of 68 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 50 cents per share.

The regional bank posted revenue of $379.4 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $358.9 million, also surpassing Street forecasts.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $1.52 billion, or $6.92 per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $1.29 billion.

Umpqua shares have climbed 9% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $16.50, a fall of almost 10% in the last 12 months.
