Through the use of environmentally friendly base stations,
Turkcell has saved approximately 55 million kWh of energy,
which amounts to the consumption of approximately 20,000
households. Among other means, this was achieved through
hybrid base stations interchangeably powered by wind turbines
and electricity in the network as well as 25 base stations
relying on solar and wind energy, and built in regions of
limited electricity supply. Additionally, the adjustment of
base stations' electricity consumption in line with network
traffic density, plus the use of energy saving
air-conditioning both contribute to energy conservation.
Meanwhile, Turkcell Superonline's use of GPON (Gigabit
Passive Optic Network) technology for the first time in
Turkey has led to a saving of 10 million kWh, which exceeds
the annual electricity consumption of more than 2,500
households.
Chief Network Operations Officer Ilter Terzioglu has
commented that "We have become an exemplary company worldwide
with our hybrid base stations that derive electricity from
both the network and wind energy. We also ensure seamless
communication in regions of limited electricity supply with
our base stations powered solely by alternative energy
sources. As Turkcell Group, we are proud that together with
Turkcell Superonline, we channel our leadership in technology
to the creation of environmentally-friendly solutions, and
offer supreme and seamless communication to our customers,
while contributing to Turkey's economy."
