The Arrowtown Trust has taken out the Supreme Award at the 2011 TrustPower Queenstown Lakes District Community Awards.

The awards were announced and presented on Monday November 14 at the Arrowtown Hall.

For winning the Supreme Award, the Arrowtown Trust received a framed certificate, a trophy and $1,500 prize money. The Arrowtown Trust now has the opportunity to represent the district at the 2011 TrustPower National Community Awards, which are being held in the Ashburton District in March 2012.

In total, TrustPower gave away over $5,000 to various community groups through the Awards.

TrustPower Community Relations Representative Jess Somerville says a special part of Arrowtown's rich history lives on, thanks to the committed volunteers of The Arrowtown Trust.

"The restoration of the three miner's cottages was a mammoth task achieved by huge voluntary hours from the Arrowtown Trust.

Volunteers were involved in every aspect of the project from the thorough research through to co-ordinating the construction. These same volunteers also fundraised for the over $700,000.00 necessary to pull a project of this scale off.

Thanks to the foresight of the Arrowtown Trust, Arrowtown is now home to three fully restored miners cottages and a special part of it's unique history has been preserved for the benefit of many", says Miss Somerville.
