Toyota Motor has issued a noncompliance safety recall on the latest model years of its Lexus RX and NX vehicles over problems with their headrests.

The automaker said Thursday that the recall affects about 11,000 model year 2024 Lexus RX and 2024-2025 Lexus NX vehicles in the U.S.

According to Toyota, the headrests on the front driver and passenger seats may be removable without pressing the release button, which puts the vehicles out of compliance with federal safety standards and raises the risk of injury in the event of a rear-end crash if the headrest is removed.

Lexus dealers will replace the head rests at no cost to customers, who will be notified of the issue by late August, Toyota said.
