1. Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
Reducing emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) as the major driver of climate change is a social challenge that represents one of the greatest concerns globally. In response to the Japanese government's 2050 Carbon Neutral Declaration and revision of its fiscal 2031 GHG emissions reduction target,
GHG emissions reduction measures
a. Pursue energy conservation
b. Decarbonize the energy we use
Our major GHG emissions reduction target is to reduce the CO2 emitted from our in-house thermal power generation facilities. We will progressively phase out coal and other fossil fuels that produce large quantities of GHGs, replacing them with biomass, liquefied natural gas, and CO2-free hydrogen and ammonia and the like. We will also step up our efforts to introduce renewable energies, such as solar, to decarbonize the energy used by the
c. CO2 capture and use
d. Invest in GHG emissions reduction
To fund these measures,
2. Contribution to society through GHG-reducing products and technologies
Product and technology targets, Social contribution, Rigid urethane foam (heat insulation material), Polyvinyl chloride (plastic sashes), High-performance external thermal insulation materials, including for insulated windows, contribute to the spread of energy-efficient and even zero-energy housing.
Amines for CO2 capture
The limited degradation of amines in the presence of the nitrogen oxides and more in exhaust gas facilitates their use in capturing CO2 from a wide range of exhaust gases.
Energy-saving electrolysis technologies
A jointly developed ion exchange membrane electrolytic cell for caustic soda manufacturing licensed to companies worldwide contributes to energy conservation globally.
