NRC's Australian subsidiary extends its contract with TfNSW

Network Rail Consulting (NRC) has announced that its Australian subsidiary's System Integrator contract for the Digital Systems Program with Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) has been extended to 2024. The System Integration Team plays a key role in defining and delivering the programme and collaborating with key partners.

The Digital Systems Program replaces existing signalling and train control systems with modern, internationally-proven intelligent technology to enable more trains on the track and, therefore, a higher frequency of reliable services for Sydney Trains customers. A key part of the contract is the transfer of knowledge and build-up of experience to its key stakeholders.

The New South Wales (NSW) government originally awarded the first phase of the System Integrator contract to NRC in December 2018. This further extension to the original System Integrator contract now ensures that NRC is able to support the successful introduction of European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 with a Traffic Management System (TMS) on the first two deployment areas, Cronulla to Sutherland and Bondi to Erskineville.

Together with its partners – Acmena, The Go-Ahead Group and INECO – NRC has brought a unique combination of Australian, Spanish and UK expertise, as well as the latest digital railway technology, to the Sydney-based project.

Network Rail Consulting's Global Managing Director, Nigel Ash, said: "This extension demonstrates the contribution that the 40-strong NRC-led team has made to the project over the last two years. We look forward to continuing this highly collaborative relationship with TfNSW through to the introduction of ETCS Level 2 services".
