Steel Authority of India Limited announced that Shri Amarendu Prakash, Director (In-charge-Bokaro Steel Plant), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has joined as Chairman SAIL, with effect from May 31, 2023. Shri Amarendu Prakash has assumed the post of Director (In-charge, Bokaro Steel Plant)), SAIL with effect from September 2020. A B.Tech in Metallurgy from BIT Sindri, (Ranchi University), he is an accomplished technocrat and possesses over 30 years of experience, comprising 24 years in Plant Operations at BSL, 4 years at the Chairman's office in SAIL, and 2 years as a Director on SAIL Board, as In-charge of BSL.

Shri Prakash began his career at SAIL in the year 1991 with a posting in Rolling Mills. During their long stint of 20 years in BSL, he mastered the art of steel rolling and finishing. Shri Prakash, played a crucial role in the timely completion of the upgradation of Hot Strip Mill (HSM) in 1997 and 2007, the implementation of ERP and six sigma certification in the HSM and was the driving force in setting-up the technology hub to serve as a think-tank for research in hot rolling, coordinating patenting and copyright activities.

Under his able leadership, patent on the technical design of Reheating Furnaces was successfully filed. As a key member of the Production and Sales Planning Team, he was instrumental in strategizing the overall production and manufacturing of a quality product mix maximization revenue. He pioneered the business analytics division for product mix optimization, identifying investment needs and proactive analysis of business information to customize production as per market trends.

A widely traveled technocrat across the globe to countries like Germany, France, Italy, South Korea, which among others, has done an immense value addition to his vast knowledge and experience in the field of Steel Manufacturing Technology. During his short stint in Chairman's office, he orchestrated the formulation & development of key strategies at the apex level and their effective implementation. He had been involved in driving business transformation and financial turnaround of SAIL which resulted in bringing back the Company from a streak of 3 years of losses starting from Fiscal Year 16, into profit in Fiscal Year 19.

He has been leading Bokaro Steel Plant(BSL)as Director In-charge since September 2020 and for a brief period was also having the additional charge of Director I/c-Rourkela Steel Plant, IISCO and Durgapur Steel Plant. He has consistently provided strategic direction to all levels of the organization, setting clear objectives and guiding teams toward their successful achievement. His ability to synthesize complex information and make informed decisions has been instrumental in driving the organization's growth and maintaining its competitive edge.

Under his able leadership, the Bokaro Steel Plant has seen remarkable results, with well-coordinated efforts across departments, efficient resource allocation, and timely implementation of initiatives. His unwavering commitment to excellence and his unwavering dedication to flawless execution has earned him a reputation as a leader who sets the bar high and consistently delivers outstanding results. With the paradigm shift in the mindset of people, BSL continued the streak of breaking production records year after year by bringing in a culture of continual improvement in FY22 and FY23.

Bokaro Steel Plant reported its best-ever performance since its inception in Fiscal Year 22 and Fiscal Year 23 in production, Sales, and financial performance while displaying improvement in techno-economic parameters under his dynamic leadership and able guidance. Shri Prakash led the team in Management Business Simulations Competition and won the National Championship, besides winning the Asian Championship to participate in the Global Management Contest representing India. In the year 1999, he was conferred by SAIL the prestigious "JAWAHAR AWARD" for best young manager for his leadership qualities.
