St. Patrick's Day celebrations will kick off early at SKYCITY with an all-new free Federal Street Festival. On Saturday 16 March Federal Street will transform with the sights and sounds of the Irish community, with visitors to the precinct encouraged to 'get your green on'.

A proud Irish citizen and SKYCITY's Chief Operating Officer, Michael Ahearne, is excited to host the first St. Patrick's Federal Street Festival.

"We love hosting Federal Street festivals for Aucklanders and this special event will be a family friendly occasion with something for everyone. It's going to be a fantastic event that I know SKYCITY and the Irish community are excited about, and what better place to celebrate than Federal Street. I'm really looking forward to seeing a bit of my heritage and culture come to life here at SKYCITY!!" says Mr Ahearne.

The Get your Green On festival in partnership with St. Patrick's Festival New Zealand will make for another memorable instalment of SKYCITY's much-loved Federal Street festivals. From 4pm till 10pm the street will be a vibrant tribute to all things Irish with authentic entertainment, food and market stalls. The brand-new St. Patrick's Festival would not be complete without Guinness, which will have a pop-up bar under the Sky Tower.

The festival promises to be a family friendly occasion, with free entry and a unique line up. The special program of entertainment includes Irish music and dance entertainment, food trucks, and the Coatesville market stalls. For those making it a family affair, there will balloon artists, face painters, Scotty Sky Tower, a dedicated kids' zone and more for all ages.

To add to the spectacular sea of green, the event will be set against the backdrop of the Sky Tower, glowing green for the occasion. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Auckland's St. Patrick's Day celebrations and the addition of the Federal Street Festival will provide yet another fantastic event for those looking to celebrate the Ireland's national day.

New Zealand leads the world in celebrations for St. Patrick's Day, with the iconic Sky Tower the first landmark to ever light up green, sparking a worldwide movement to go green for the celebratory day. Now, more than 300 landmarks around the world will follow Auckland in being lit in shamrock green.
