- Over 620 compliments received in the week leading up to Christmas

Singapore, 3 January 2014 - Amid the hustle and bustle of the festive season, some 250

SingPost's management staff rolled up their sleeves at 23 post offices across Singapore, playing holiday elves from 19 December right up to 24 December 2013, to bring festive cheer of another kind to customers. Designated as the peak season helpers, they made their rounds during the busy lunch-time hours to assist customers with postal needs and to speed up the parcel collection process. By the sheer number of compliments they received, they were surely a welcome sight. Appreciative customers complimented the staff and lauded the initiative as they were able to collect their items much faster during the busy period. During the project period, close to 3,500 items were collected at the 23 post offices.
Madam Malinah was one such appreciative customer. She had gone to the Bedok Central Post Office to send a bulky item and with a baby in a sling, she had difficulty carrying her bulky item. She was immediately assisted by Ms Ng Ling Ling, a Finance Manager with SingPost. "The staff was very helpful when I was in need of some help with carrying my bulky item and my baby, and she assisted me throughout the transaction," said Madam Malinah. As for Ms Ng, the initiative had given her the opportunity to interact with customers. "It was gratifying to see customers leaving the post office with a smile. I find this initiative very meaningful, as it had given me the experience that I would never have in a desk-bound job," said Ms Ng.
Over at SingPost Centre Post Office, Ms Vivien Ann Tay was another satisfied customer. "I was pleasantly surprised by the prompt, friendly and helpful service rendered by the staff," said Ms Tay. She was served by Mr Ray Juan, SingPost's Sales Manager, who helped her with her parcel return. Mr Juan said: "My sales job entails serving corporate customers but my first-hand encounters with retail customers had given me a whole new experience in customer service."
SingPost's Chief Information Officer, Mr Ramesh Narayanaswamy was another staff who had expended time and efforts for this initiative. "The increase in the number of post office visits during the festive period had added pressure to the traffic, and I am glad that I could help ease some load off the counter staff during crucial periods like this," said Mr Narayanaswamy.
Dr Wolfgang Baier, SingPost's Group Chief Executive Officer, also chipped in to help during the year-end peak period. Dr Baier said: "In the last two years, the management staff have helped deliver parcels during the year-end peak season. This year, the team

loved the idea of helping out at post offices during the one week leading up to Christmas. With the extra pairs of hands, our customers were able to enjoy faster service during the lunch-time rush hours. I am heartened that our customers were very appreciative of our efforts."

All hands on deck for festive peak season

Peak season helpers is one of the measures taken by SingPost to beef up its operations during the year-end peak period. There are other measures taken by SingPost to ensure that customers receive their gifts or purchases on time, including Saturday deliveries for mail packets for the entire month of December 2013, weekend deliveries by couriers and management staff for Speedpost items from early December 2013 to mid January 2014, additional collections for posting boxes islandwide on three Saturdays of December, additional collections for posting boxes at major post offices on two Sundays of December, and the deployment of supplementary workforce to help out with Speedpost deliveries and indoor mail sorting.
To spread festive cheer, SingPost has slashed its shipping charges for Speedpost EMS Saver Box deliveries to 220 countries worldwide by up to 50% since mid November so that the consumers can spend more on gifts for their loved ones abroad and less on shipping costs. The special festive promotion for Speedpost EMS Saver Box will end on 28
February 2014.
