Shaw Communications, Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended November 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of CAD million compared with CAD 1,389 million a year ago. Operating income was CAD 396 million compared with CAD 386 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was CAD 300 million compared with CAD 293 million a year ago. Operating income before restructuring costs and amortization was CAD 626 million compared with CAD 606 million a year ago. Net income was CAD 218 million or CAD 0.43 per share compared with CAD 227 million or CAD 0.46 per share a year ago. Net income attributable to equity shareholders was CAD 209 million compared with CAD 219 million a year ago. Free cash flow was CAD 173 million compared with CAD 193 million a year ago. The reduction was primarily due to timing of planned capital expenditures for the first quarter being higher than for the comparable period, partially offset by higher operating income before restructuring costs and amortization. Additions to property, plant and equipment was CAD 270 million compared with CAD 221 million a year ago. Additions to equipment cost were CAD 24 million against CAD 19 million a year ago. Additions to other intangibles were CAD 25 million against CAD 23 million a year ago.

The company provided earnings guidance for the year 2016. Operating income before restructuring costs and amortization is expected to range between flat to low single digit growth over 2015 and free cash flow expected to range between CAD 665 and CAD 680 million.
