Phong Dam always dreamed of owning his own ranch, and Sanderson Farms helped his dream to become a reality when he became a poultry grower. In 2018, Dam purchased his four-house breeder farm in Tennessee Colony, Texas, which was the start of Dam Ha Investments.

Dam's days on the farm are long as he starts early in the morning by checking on the birds to ensure they have feed and water. During the day, Dam has help come to the farm to assist with the daily operations. After five in the evening, he goes back to the farm to check on the birds and to ensure the machinery is operating efficiently.

'It's a new profession and I enjoy the learning process,' said Dam. 'I'm very thankful that Sanderson Farms was on my side during that time because I learned a lot from them.'

Dam takes pride in his farm and understands the importance of his job as a grower in the beginning stages of producing a good quality product for Sanderson Farms. 'He's very attentive and it makes it easier on the flock supervisor when you have a grower who will bring things to your attention before you even have to see them,' said Clint Stephens, breeder flock supervisor for Sanderson Farms' Palestine, Texas production division. 'It makes for an easy relationship working with the grower when there's no animosity. There's a friendship there and we can work through any problems we have because he understands the issues as well as me understanding the issues.'

Dam is married to his wife, Tran Ha, and they have one daughter. 'Living on the farm gives my daughter the opportunity to learn a lot about animals and she enjoys it,' said Dam.
