RSI today announced that Alan Cohen has been appointed Chief Geophysicist and will be located in the company's headquarters in Houston.

Alan worked for Royal Dutch Shell/Shell Oil for more than twenty-eight years as a geoscientist in E&P operating units, technical service organizations, in R&D, and, ultimately as Chief Geophysicist - Western Hemisphere. He also created and led a multi-disciplinary "Reservoir Technologies" group. He currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Geology at University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

RSI CEO Richard Cooper stated: "As a renowned oil industry consultant and educator with over 30 years' experience in global exploration, development & production Alan brings a vast depth of geoscience knowledge that will be of direct benefit to both our clients and to our staff."

Alan's areas of technical expertise include: seismic rock physics, pore pressure prediction, quantitative seismic interpretation, seismic inversion, seismic attribute analysis and AVO interpretation, reservoir characterization and reservoir management (including 4D seismic), as well as other areas. Most recently, he conceived and served on the Organizing Committee of the First International Workshop on Rock Physics, August 2011 at Colorado School of Mines.

Said RSI President Gareth Taylor, "Alan's role will be to provide technical oversight of our rock physics-based inversion services, to mentor our junior staff in all areas of his expertise and to audit our technical capabilities with the goal of identifying new market segments that we might wish to enter, for example pore pressure prediction and 4D seismic studies."

Alan was educated at Harvard (PhD) and McGill University (BSc). Born in Montreal, Canada, Alan is a naturalized US citizen. He is a member of the SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) and serves on the SEG's committee on Development & Production. He is also past 1st Vice President SWLGS (Southwest Louisiana Geophysical Society). Alan is married and has six children.
