CI Resources Ltd.'s was appointed by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) to a 3-year Facilities Management Services Contract (Contract). CIMS is based on Christmas Island, backed by a local workforce. The Contract included an official order specifically relating to facilities management services for the Immigration Detention Facility at North West Point (NWPIDC Official Order). CIMS has been issued a notice by DHA terminating the NWPIDC Official Order with effect from 7 October 2021. The change only affects the NWPIDC Official Order, not CIMS facilities management services provided to non-operational detention centre areas on Christmas Island, such as accommodation, Phosphate Hill and the construction camp, which are part of the broader detention centre network. At this early stage, impacts to CII earnings are not clear however they are not anticipated to be substantive and work is underway to mitigate these impacts. More substantial impacts are likely to be felt by the local workforce and community on Christmas Island, given the local staff involved in delivering the NWPIDC Official Order. CII is engaging with the Commonwealth to minimise negative impacts on local jobs, while continuing to advocate for the provision of service by the island community.
