AMES, Iowa - Jan. 25, 2016 - PRLog -- PowerFilm employee Julia Stone was honored and made a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Ames on Monday, January 11, 2016.

Stone received the honor bearing the name of the Rotary Club founder due to her 'tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.'

Stone's efforts focused on providing a reduced rate, thin film solar panel to the Village of Kigogo, Tanzania.

The PowerFilm solar panel provides enough energy to power a much needed well in the village. In addition, the electricity generated allowed for the first electric lights in the local school.

The Village of Kigogo was in desperate need of a centralized clean water source and was quite active in the construction process.

Members of the rotary assisted in building the well and the electrical work. The Village Water Committee is now the sole owner and operator of this well system.

The installation of a solar panel and construction of the well is the first of many such projects. The Ames Rotary Club's and PowerFilm's efforts are sure to have a lasting impact in the Village of Kigogo and many other villages in need of easy access to clean water and electricity.
