FOR IMMEDIATE RELAESE
Palabora Copper leads the way in this year's 67 minutes for Mandela Day initiatives as it presents the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality with five low income houses located at Nkaneng (Marite), London, Lillydale (Kwenyamahembe), Saselane and Thlamalane areas. These five families, who have previously been living in dilapidated mud structure and shacks, were cautiously identified by SANCO, one of the community organizations.
"This is what Nelson Mandela would have wanted and as Palabora Copper we want to strive to remain amongst those socially responsible companies for the continuation of his legacy and spirit of Ubuntu," said the company's General Manager of Corporate Affair, Keith Mathole.
"Bushbuckridge forms integral part of our communities hence we saw it fitting that we provide these deprived families with decent and dignified shelter to live in," Keith
continued.

The honorable Mayor of the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality Clr Renius Khumalo handed over the five families with the keys to their new homes. Some of the families that received houses were child and elderly-headed households.
"We are delighted to have made this meaningful contribution and changing the lives of these families, while promoting the spirit of Ubuntu this Mandela Day," Keith concluded.
Palabora Copper (Pty) Limited (Palabora) is a copper mine, smelter and refinery complex based in the town of Phalaborwa, in South Africa's Limpopo Province. The mine owes its origins to a unique rock formation in the region known as the Palabora Igneous Complex.
Palabora has been operational since its incorporation in 1956 and is the country's only producer of refined copper, producing approximately 80 000 tonnes per year. Operational since its incorporation
in 1956, Palabora Copper is South Africa's sole producer of refined copper, which it supplies mainly to the local market and export the balance. Whilst copper forms the base-load of its business, Palabora also mines and exports other by-products such as Magnetite, Vermiculite Sulphuric acid, anode
slimes and nickel sulphate.
More than a mineLocated directly adjacent to the world-renowned eco-tourism attraction, the Kruger National Park, Palabora coordinates several onsite wildlife management and cultural heritage programmes as part of its ongoing sustainability drive. The company also collaborates closely with various communities in
the Ba-Phalaborwa district to boost economic development and alleviate poverty.
