NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has developed the "Filter
Seal Integrated Large Size Bearing", which combines a large
bearing and filter seal into a single integrated unit.
Large industrial machinery bearings not only generally
require long-life and maintenance-free operation, but they
also need to be able to be used in harsh environments and
exhibit greater reliability. Bearings built into devices
and equipment that are mainly used outdoors in particular
can also became damaged due to foreign matters penetrating
into the lubricant or device itself.
The "Filter Seal Integrated Large Size Bearing" developed
by NTN prevents penetration of foreign matters within
lubricant into the bearing, helping to extend the bearing
replacement intervals and further reduce required
maintenance.
The filter seal of the developed bearing features a
lubricant inlet and discharge opening section fitted with a
mesh filter of the appropriate size. This design prevents
penetration of foreign matters while limiting interference
to the flow of lubricants. The filter seal has been
incorporated without affecting the outer dimensions of the
bearing itself, which means that no changes are required to
the layout of the housing around the bearing unit, and
allows the bearing to be replaced at periodic replacement.
NTN is planning to market the "Filter Seal Integrated Large
Size Bearing" as a product to improve reliability of
industrial machinery used in a variety of different
environments including mining and construction machinery
where penetration of foreign matters may pose a problem,
wind power generators that require long-term use or
maintenance-free operation.
* foreign matters: metallic abrasion powder, sand, dust or
similar
