FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AIR BERHAD INKS MOU WITH UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA KUALA LUMPUR, 5 January 2017 - Aliran Ihsan Resources Berhad (AIR Berhad), a Member of MMC Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), a research centre established under Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

The MoU enables both parties to evaluate and explore possible business relationship and opportunities to commercialise the utilisation of Advanced Membrane Technology for the treatment of water and wastewater in the future.

AIR Berhad was represented by Dato' Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Director of AIR Berhad and Adam Saffian Ghazali Chief Executive Officer of AIR Berhad while Professor Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid bin Omar, Vice Chancellor of UTM and Professor Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research And Innovation) of UTM signed on behalf of AMTEC. The signing was held at Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water's (KeTTHA) office in Putrajaya and witnessed by Dato' Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang, Secretary General of KeTTHA.

AIR Berhad recently introduced its first 'Industrial Wastewater Recovery Plant' using Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane Technology for a rubber glove business in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan. The plant was successfully commissioned and completed on 31 October 2016 and has operated commercially on 1 November 2016.

AIR Berhad is an expert in the field of water treatment technology and management. AMTEC on the other hand is a research center under UTM specialising on membrane technology and new membrane applications. AMTEC aspires to be a reference center and a leader in membrane technology and its application globally.

The membrane technology will process wastewater through a combination of pre- treatment, chemical dosing and Reverse Osmosis (RO) system to remove bacteria as well as suspended and dissolved solids. The system was designed to recover up to 65% of the treated wastewater discharged from the factory with daily production capacity of 1 million litres per day (1 MLD).

Through this technology client will see a lower cost of water supply using sustainable water which simultaneously resolves water service disruption from local water authority. The recovery plant is able to serve various industries depending on the quality of the wastewater effluent.

Recently AIRB successfully secured 2nd Wastewater Recycling Project for a rubber glove manufacturing company with project capacity of 1 million litres per day (1 MLD). With the succession of this second project, AIRB aims to expand its industrial water business into other industrial segments apart from rubber glove industry.
