Mitsui Chemicals : Start-up PP Compounds Capacity Augmented in North America and Asia

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: Tsutomu Tannowa) and Prime Polymer Co., Ltd. (President: Takeshi Kaide; JV: Mitsui Chemicals 65%, Idemitsu Kosan 35%) announced production augmentation has been completed and started up, to strength the Group's position in growth markets, at three of its global PP compound hubs - United States, Mexico, and India - in response to growing demand for automotive use polypropylene.
The Group currently has 8 global production sites (Japan, USA, Mexico, Europe, Thailand, China, India, and Brazil) and R&D facilities in 5 areas (Japan, USA, Europe, Thailand, and China) for automotive use polypropylene (PP) and has continued to enhance its production system for premium-quality products.
While needs to reduce environmental load and regulatory constraints expand, the demand for lighter weight automobile parts, such as bumpers and instrument panels, is also expected to grow.
The Group has been strengthen its production capacity in North America, Europe, and Asia bringing the production capacity to 1.05 million, thereby securing its position as the world's top class provider of PP compounds for automotive use.
The Mitsui Chemicals Group will continue to bolster its manufacturing, sales, and technical service system to supply high-quality products and actively strengthen and expand its PP compound business.

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. specializes in the manufacture and marketing of chemicals products. Net sales break down by product family as follows:
- basic chemicals and fine chemicals products (48.8%): polypropylene, polyethylene, phenols, polyolefins, polyurethane, etc.;
- performance chemicals products (25.5%): elastomers, urethane, polymers, etc. intended in particular for the automotive industry;
- coating materials, films and agrochemicals (14.6%): resins, adhesives, polypropylene films, polyethylene films, industrial films, agrochemicals (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc.) for the food and packaging sectors;
- specialty materials (10.2%): ophthalmic lens materials, photochromic materials, non-woven fibers, dental products, etc. dedicated to the medical and healthcare industry;
- other (0.9%).
Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: Japan (52.2%), China (14.5%), Asia (13.6%), America (11.8%), Europe (7.3%) and other (0.6%).
