MakeMusic, Inc. (NASDAQ: MMUS) today announced the launch of the "Take Your Music Further with Garritan" composition contest.

Celebrating MakeMusic's December 30, 2011 acquisition of Garritan Corporation, this contest invites composers to develop a musical theme to create a piece of music - using Garritan sounds - that evokes their dream travel destination.

To illustrate the ability of superior sounds to transport the creative process, the contest awards are travel-related. The grand prize is a $2,000 United Airlines gift card and $500 in spending money. Two runner-up prizes of $700 United Airlines gift cards will also be awarded.

"The astonishing quality of Garritan instruments inspires musicians," said Karen van Lith, MakeMusic CEO. "These sound libraries enable composers and arrangers to hear their music with greater realism and detail."

While contest entries can be created with Finale or any other music software program, they must use only Garritan sounds. All entries will be posted as audio files on a Finale Facebook page, and public voting on Facebook will determine ten finalists. A panel of MakeMusic judges will select the grand prize winner and runners up.

Contest details, and complete rules, appear at www.finalemusic.com/GarritanContest.
