Macy's announced that, it plans to close 65 stores nationwide, including three in the Houston area, as part of a plan to slash costs as sales continue to slide. The closures, part of approximately 100 announced last August, include locations at Greenspoint Mall, West Oaks Mall and Pasadena Town Square. Most will shut down this spring. Company is closing locations that are unproductive or are no longer robust shopping destinations due to changes in the local retail shopping landscape. The announcement came with news of a major restructuring plan expected to reduce the company's annual expenses by about $550 million a year after initial losses associated with the changes. Macy's expects to cut about 3,900 employees as a result of the closures and an additional 6,200 from it’s corporate operations. The latest round of closures reflects the company's ongoing effort to cut costs as consumer preferences change and e-commerce sales rise.
