Euromelanoma Day: Free Screening at Hospital da Luz Setúbal

07-05-19

Hospital da Luz Setúbal will offer skin cancer free screening on May 15, the Euromelanoma Day. All those interested in participating in this initiative, to be ensured by teams of the Dermatology and Oncology Services from this hospital, must schedule appointments in advance.

Skin cancer is the most common malignant neoplasia in the European population. In recent decades, the incidence of different types of skin cancer raised significantly, essentially due to changes in behaviour regarding sun exposure.

The most frequent types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma and spinocellular carcinoma (90% of cutaneous neoplasms). Although less frequent, melanoma is the most serious type, representing 10% of cases and being responsible for more than two thirds of deaths by skin cancer, especially when diagnosed later. In Portugal, on average, around a thousand new cases of melanoma arise every year.

Prevention and early diagnosis are, therefore, essential in skin cancer: people with multiple moles, moles with alteration in shape, size or colour, or other suspicious skin lesions, should do the screening.

Prevent melanoma and participate in the screening!

Schedule: May 15, from 14:00 to 16:00 (building B of the hospital)

Mandatory Appointment: by phone 265 509 200 or at any reception desk of Hospital da Luz Setúbal
