AI is changing the world, what should you do before the robots take over?

There are two things you can do about it, you can reject this truth and try to fight against it. This mindset normally comes from the older generation who are often 'stuck in their ways', it's worked for them for over 30 years so why change?

The second option is to accept it and find your place in the new world.

Come along for the ride or get left behind.

Stock the guns and ammo, it's good to be prepared.

You have already taken the first step by reading this blog, but for people who haven't or aren't in the know… The first step to future proofing yourself is being aware that that automation is coming.

You can do nothing about it. You might get lucky doing nothing, or you can be proactive about it and educate yourself on the developments of RPA, AI and Automation.

Don't resit the change, embrace it. What is fact, the world will leave you behind if you are too stuck in your ways, many business have failed to keep up with their customers' needs and now no longer exists.

Now that you are ready to embrace the fact that if you don't evolve you die, the next step is to up-skill.

Put yourself forward.

The second thing you should do is look at your job and recognise what about it could easily be automated. Jobs with repetitive, high-volume, tasks will be automated first.

If your job requires you to deal with ever changing problems and making decisions on unique situations then you are safe, for now.

If you recognise the fact that your job is highly repetitive then the first thing you need to do is up-skill yourself.

Look at the needs and wants of the work place, talk to your boss and explain you would like more responsibility.

Use external sites and organisations to accrue more skills to make you more valuable, volunteer yourself when asked if you would like to contribute to a project or meeting, etc. move to a different department if you can, just don't stay still.

Learn, learn, learn, as technology moves so will you, continuous learning will keep you ahead of the curve and with a job.

Jump ship.

If you see no way to improve your position in your current company, or can't up-skill yourself enough, then jump ship. You may have to move away from an industry you have been in for years.

Learn new skills, this isn't as bad as it sounds, it's happened all through history there are jobs available today that weren't available 100 years ago.

There are so many growing industries driven by technology, with new jobs being created every day including things such as; Robotics Engineer, Solar Technology Expert and even Meme Marketer!

The jobs of yesterday no longer exist as the jobs of today will completely change from the jobs of the future.

In 1915 there were 20 million working horses in America, technically, these were one of the first labour forces to lose their jobs to automation on a grand scale since the industrial revolution.

There are now only 5 million domesticated horses in America, unfortunately the horses weren't able to adapt or learn new skills like humans can.

This isn't an uncommon thing through history, 'Refrigerators eliminated the need to cut, transport, and store ice. Automated exchanges in telephones made switchboard operators a quaint relic of the past. Kerosene lamps broke the back of the candle industry, turn be pushed aside by the gas light, which was soon rendered obsolete by the electric lightbulb.'

When you were a child, if you hated school, and maybe you still do, well this world just got a little bit harder for you.

Newer technology is always developing, which means you have to stay a head of the curve, just like doctors must study every year to keep up you may have to too. If you don't want to learn… Well you could always move to a developing country. Even then, technology is coming, and in some places faster than you can likely imagine.
