Catches and values down compared to previous year

According to HB Grandi's data, the company's fleet landed 141,867 tonnes of fish valued at ISK14 billion during 2016. This represents an approximately 19% reduction in volume compared to the previous year, while valued were down by 16%.

The HB Grandi figures show that pelagic vessels Venus and Víkingur between them landed 95,600 tonnes valued at ISK3.7 billion. This is a considerable drop compared to 2015 when the company's three pelagic vessels landed 128,000 tonnes with a value of ISK4.6 billion. This is equivalent to a 25% reduction in volume and a 19% reduction in values over 2015. It is notable that there was a substantial drop of 41,000 tonnes in capelin catches between years.

The three HB Grandi freezer trawlers landed a total of 21,000 tonnes last year, with a catch value of ISK5.9 billion. The reduction in volume was only 2.5%, while values in ISK-terms fell by 15% compared to the previous year. The cause of this can be traced primarily to the króna gaining strength compared to currency of the main nations the company trades with. The freezer trawlers' catch values are FOB for both years and figures may still fluctuate slightly for the final landings made by each trawler.

The fresher trawlers' catch was down 4% to approximately 25,300 tonnes with a value of ISK 4.4 billion. This is a 14% drop compared to 2015.

The company's trawler fleet as a whole landed approximately 46,300 tonnes with an overall value of ISK10.3 billion. The drop in catches was 3.5% and the value reduction is 15% over the same period.
