Great Lakes Dredge & Dock has won a $92 million contract from the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to deepen and widen the Corpus Christi Ship Channel (CCSC) from the Gulf of Mexico to Harbor Island, as part of the Channel Improvement Project (CIP). Under the terms of the contract, Great Lakes Dredge will increase the depth from -47ft Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) to -54ft MLLW from the jetties at the entrance of the ship channel to Harbor Island and extend the CCSC into the Gulf of Mexico to -56ft MLLW. The award of this first dredging contract is without a doubt the most important development they will see in 2019. Building critical infrastructure for the energy sector is their primary mission and will allow larger vessels access to much needed export facilities, safely and responsibly. The Fiscal Year 2019 Work Plan, announced by the USACE in November 2018, included an additional $59m in funding for the CIP, taking the total federal appropriations for the CIP to $95 million.
