At Energomashspetsstal a siphon hollow ingot weighing 125 tons was casted and is already forged. For experts of EMSS this event became a new great achievement in this innovative direction.

[Attachment] This ingot has been cast for production of the shell of the case of the high-pressure steam generator on the project of NPP 'Kudankulam'. Taking into account the configuration such ingot is the only one in the former Soviet Union today. The shell from this ingot is also the first product of such weight in the history of the enterprises of Rosatom which has been made from a hollow ingot.

The main advantage of such ingots, in comparison with traditional polygonal, is in better chemical structure of metal. Respectively, it is possible to receive higher uniformity of mechanical properties and to raise operational characteristics of a final product. Moreover, such form of an ingot makes possible to reduce the number of operations when forging that reduces consumption of natural gas and, respectively, reduces product cost.

On EMSS application of hollow ingots was already applied to manufacturing of products for NPP earlier. In 2014 within skilled and regular production, from hollow ingots weighing 50.5 t 2 pipes GTsT have been made from steel grade 10ГН2МФА. Products met the requirements of specifications and the drawing completely.

All works on the project of production of the steam generator shells from a hollow ingot from casting - to forging were carried out together with the mail material organization JSC NPO TSNIITMASH.
