Agco presented Outrun at its own Interactive Technology Event in Salina, Kansas. Ten tractors with the retrofitted retrofit kit will go into the country with a grain transfer trailer this fall; the kit will also go on sale starting next year.

The box is mounted on the tractor cab and uses Doppler radar and lidar to detect objects in the field. The technology can control not only the Agco brands Fendt, Massey Ferguson and Valtra. In Salina, Agco demonstrated Outrun on both a Fendt and John Deere 8R tractor. The company has the kit ready for John Deere 8R tractors from 2014 model year, other tractor makes and types will follow in the near future.

By the way, autonomous is a bit of an exaggeration. In fact, it is a master-slave solution. The driver on the combine harvester controls the tractor in front of the grain transfer trailer via a tablet. He can call up the transfer wagon from the combine and steer it under the unloading pipe. When the transfer car is full, the grain transfer car independently drives to an area where it is unloaded by an employee. Similarly, a tractor can also be able to work the soil from the cab of another tractor in the same field.

Agco acquired the master-slave technology after acquiring Trimble last September.
