American Airlines Group Inc. has launched a codeshare agreement with Cathay Dragon. The agreement will add service to four new destinations and increase service to three existing markets in Southeast Asia. American will place its designator code on certain Cathay Dragon flights from Hong Kong International Airport, where it operates daily, year-round service from Los Angeles and Dallas-Fort Worth.

The codeshare agreement will allow the airline's customers to connect to seven cities by way of Hong Kong. The new codeshare flights will be on sale starting July 11, 2019. The four new destinations in Asia include: Dhaka, Bangladesh; Chiang Mai, Thailand; Da Nang, Vietnam; Phuket, Thailand.

The agreement will also increase frequencies to existing markets in Asia including: Penang, Malaysia; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Hanoi, Vietnam. Codesharing allows an airline to offer flights to destinations it usually does not offer service to by placing its designator code on a flight operated by another airline. American can then sell tickets for the other flight as well, allowing the carrier's passengers to qualify for more miles to gain rewards.
