Announces more than $100,000 in charitable donations to Delaware Valley organizations, including a new playground for the Philadelphia Montessori Charter School

RICHMOND, Va. (January 8, 2014) - CarMax, Inc., (NYSE: KMX), the nation's largest retailer of used cars, today celebrated the opening of its first store in King of Prussia, Pa, outside of Philadelphia. CarMax's second location in the Delaware Valley, the store is located at 185 South Gulph Road and stocks more than 250 used vehicles of nearly every make and model.

During the grand opening celebration, CarMax announced that The CarMax Foundation will invest approximately $85,000 into building a playground at the Philadelphia Montessori Charter School located at 2227 Island Ave, Philadelphia, PA. This playground will be built in June 2014 as part of The CarMax Foundation's $4.1 million national partnership with KaBOOM!, the national non-profit ensuring that all kids get the balance of play they need to become healthy and successful adults. The CarMax Foundation and KaBOOM! are building 30 playgrounds across the United States by the end of 2015, which will give 100,000 kids the joyful childhood they deserve.

"Giving back to the communities in which we live and work is an important part of the CarMax culture. Our new King of Prussia store is no exception," said Tom Folliard, president and CEO of CarMax. "This store will provide residents with the unique CarMax experience when they search for their perfect vehicle, and the new playground will provide children the needed space to be healthy and active."

Local dignitaries and CarMax associates attended a grand opening event at the new King of Prussia location today. The event included a "Road Rally" for charity featuring local personalities competing in contests, including a game of driving skill. CarMax donated $1,000 to each participant's charity, and the winner's charity received an additional $1,000.

The CarMax King of Prussia Road Rally participants and their charities of choice included: WMMR host Preston Elliot of the Preston and Steve Show, sponsoring Laurel House; Kathy Romano, also of the Preston and Steve Show, for Fresh Smiles Foundation; and Chris Konopka, former goalkeeper of the Philadelphia Union, supporting the Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund. The event was emceed by Maria Papadakis, a contributor for Philly.com and Comcast Sportsnet.

During the grand opening event, The CarMax Foundation also announced $10,000 grants to both the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware and Cradles to Crayons. These grants came at the recommendation of local CarMax associates. The CarMax Foundation has granted more than $18 million on behalf of associates across the country since 2003.
