Baja Mining Corp. provided a project update for its 70%-owned Boleo copper-cobalt-zinc project, located near Santa Rosalia, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Construction of the Boleo process plant and site infrastructure continues on schedule. Critical path analysis of the construction schedule continues to indicate a process plant completion date which is consistent with Baja's objective of producing copper in the first half of 2013. At the end of February 2012, construction was 37.2% complete with 2,362 people working on the project. The company has completed more than 5.8 million cubic meters of earthworks and poured 39,839 cubic metres of concrete. The company has commenced erection of structural steel. Marine terminal construction is also on track, with 67 of 180 piles driven to final acceptance. At the end of February 2012, the company has completed 92.2% of engineering activities and 83.9% of procurement activities. The company is in the process of establishing a definitive forecast of the cost to complete the Project and expect to complete this detailed cost analysis during the second quarter of 2012. Mining has been ongoing since late last year, and at the end of February 2012, over 256,000 dry metric tonnes of ore had been mined and stockpiled on site. The majority of this ore has been sourced from surface mining activities.
