Beijing, Aug 22 (EFE).- A flight of North Korean state carrier Air Koryo from Pyongyang landed at the Beijing Capital International Airport on Tuesday, becoming the country's first international commercial flight since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out.

Flight JS151 took off from the North Korean capital at 8:33 am and landed in Beijing at 9:17 am, three minutes ahead of schedule, according to data from the VariFlight aircraft monitoring system.

The Chinese foreign ministry on Monday had announced the resumption of Air Koryo commercial flights between Beijing and Pyongyang although the first flight between the two capitals, originally scheduled for Monday, was canceled.

North Korea has remained isolated since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic with a strict border policy that has prevented even its diplomats and nationals residing overseas from entering the country.

Pyongyang now seems to be easing its border control after it recently allowed two diplomatic delegations, one from China and another from Russia, to travel to the country to participate in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice.

China is the main strategic and trade partner of North Korea, with which it shares a border of more than 1,400 kilometers (870 miles). EFE
