Opening of a BDI RetroFit BioDiesel plant in the USA

20.10.2016

(Grambach, October 20, 2016): The Styrian plant manufacturer BDI - BioEnergy International AG has inaugurated the commissioned extension of an existing BioDiesel plant in America.

  • Successful RetroFit of an American BioDiesel plant
  • Triplication of production due to technical expansion

At the beginning of October, Crimson Renewable Energy together with BDI, California Energy Commission and California Air Resources Board personnel formally opened its upgraded BioDiesel plant in Bakersfield, California. Thanks to this plant optimisation and upgrade the client is now able to triple its biodiesel production, raise its feedstock flexibility and establish themselves to a leading producer of next generation biofuels in the U.S. In this project, BDI has played a key role in the development of a tailor-made RetroFit solution for the extended use of waste materials, while at the same time increasing product quality.

Harry Simpson (Crimson Renewables, CEO): 'The excellent cooperation of the project teams of Crimson and BDI led to a smooth, fast workflow resulting in a successful commissioning of our newly expanded BioDiesel plant. We are very pleased that Crimson will increase its already significant role in helping California achieve it's carbon reduction goals, which interestingly was initiated by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who is also from Styria, Austria.'

Dr. Edgar Ahn (BDI, CSO): 'With this project, BDI is able to strengthen its presence on the US biodiesel market. Our internationally successful RetroFit programme helped our customer to update its existing plant to the latest technology. With waste based biodiesel production they will be able to make an important contribution to California's environmental targets.'
